About the Artist
Mitsi Kral is an artist living and working in County Durham, creating intuitive paintings that seek to evoke the emotional force, complexity and beauty found within the human mind.
Born in Sussex, Mitsi studied BA (Hons) at Northbrook College Brighton before later completing an MA in Art Practice at The Northern School of Art in 2024.
Mitsi paints the things around her, the things she knows and feels. Her work can move between tenderness, disturbance and a darkly humorous edge, with each painting evolving freely, intuitively and independently.
Her practice is rooted in the unexpected. Through intuitive painting, sketchbooks, fragments of words and quickly drawn visions, Mitsi pieces together memories, emotions and sensations into layered, lyrical works.
In her body of work Do You Know, Mitsi explored memory, feeling and cathartic release, creating paintings that connect personal experience with recurring images, faces and forms.
Her series Go Somewhere and Feel looked towards embodied responses to spaces in the natural world, exploring places that held feelings of spirituality, life, death and deep connection.
Mitsi has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions including Every Day of My Life at The Northern School of Art, Hartlepool, and shows at Saltburn Framing Gallery, Wetherby Framing Gallery, The Station in Richmond and The Wheatsheaf Gallery in Durham.
Her work has also appeared in group exhibitions including Drawing Attention, a British Museum Touring Exhibition at Hartlepool Art Gallery, Natural Ecologies at Hartlepool Museum, and exhibitions in New York, Paris and across the UK.
Mitsi’s paintings are held in private collections worldwide. Her work continues to explore the charged space between memory, feeling, narrative and instinct.
