Susan Noble

North-East printmaker working predominantly with lino, inspired by the shoreline, countryside and woodlands around Saltburn by the Sea.

Susan Noble is a North-East born printmaker, now based in Saltburn by the Sea, whose lino prints are inspired by the nearby shoreline, surrounding countryside and woodlands.

Susan was born in the North-East and, after studying for a BA in Archaeology and an MSc in Information Technology, spent over fifteen years in the Research and Education sector while living in Manchester.

After returning to her home town of Saltburn by the Sea and attending a Northern Print Studio workshop in Newcastle, she rediscovered her love of art and has since been a practising printmaker.

Working predominantly with lino, most of Susan’s inspiration comes from wandering the nearby shoreline and the surrounding countryside and woodlands.

Drawn as much to the process as the final result, for Susan everything usually starts with a drawing on a fresh piece of lino, and hopefully ends in a limited edition print with numerous layers of colour.

As with most printmakers, she is both relieved and delighted if the last layer of colour prints in the right place and makes all the other colours make sense.

Susan has exhibited in The Directors Cut at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, the Royal Society of Marine Artists Open Exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London, the New Light Prize Exhibition Salon de Refuses, and the Great Print Exhibitions at the Rheged Centre in Penrith.

Her work can also be found in Yorkshire galleries including Staithes Gallery and the Inspired By Gallery at Danby.
